Impact of a two step antimicrobial stewardship program in a paediatric haematology and oncology unit

The study aimed to implement a multi-step antimicrobial stewardship program in a haemato-oncology and stem cell transplantation program unit. The intervention included disseminating febrile neutropenia clinical pathways, providing clinical pathways via an app, and implementing a weekly audit. The results showed a decrease in antibiotic use, with piperacillin-tazobactam being the preferred option. The program also reduced overprescriptions in a fragile patient cohort.
